Full Canvas
A BETTER GARMENT & THE BEST VALUE
While made-to-measure, semi-custom, and mass production techniques used by 99% of all clothiers and tailor shops have become the norm; McMahan's focus is to always produce a better garment, delivered with better service and the best value in the industry.
Incredible attention is paid to every detail and the finish of each suit. Therefore, we have taken the liberty to point out some of the finer details of our garments, which may escape the untrained eye.
Each and every coat, trouser and vest begin with a hand-drawn pattern created specifically for you. After hand cutting the fabric our master tailors invest hours to complete what is known as the best in custom clothing; a hand-made garment.
FULL CANVAS
The primary detail looked at when determining the quality of a garment is the full canvas lining, which comes standard on every suit coat and sport jacket. In the tailoring of a suit, the inner lining is the most important element in giving shape and body to the garment. After the bridle is marked, basted and pressed it is time to lock the cotton bridle into place. Much like padding the lapel, we use a herringbone like pattern of stitches that
penetrates the bridle, canvas and coat front together to hold these three components together.
A garment with full canvas that is hand stitched lasts up to 10 times longer, breathes better, and allows more natural movement and drape because hand sewn layers can move independently of one another. A Full canvas coat will conform to the body the more it is worn while retaining its shape regardless of excess moisture/humidity, heat, dry cleaning or suit case packing. Fused or half canvas coats are just not able to perform to these standards. If you look carefully on the reverse side of a jacket's lapel, you must be able to see the stitching holding the layers of fabric together. A fused jacket and sometimes half canvas will have no such stitching.
